Processing Your Franchise Tax Reports

Processing your Texas franchise tax reports quickly and correctly is important to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. To help speed processing, here is an important tip for tax preparers on providing a valid taxpayer identification number when you report for a reporting entity, affiliate or partner:

1. Use the complete 11-digit Comptroller taxpayer number if the entity has one. Do not enter just the first 9 digits of this number; this will delay processing.

2. Use the 9-digit Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) if the entity does not have a Comptroller taxpayer number.

3. If neither number is available, leave the taxpayer number field blank.

To check the status of a particular account, go to the Certificate of Account Status Web site. For more details on the Texas franchise tax, visit the Web site.
